2016 Meeting

This year, the Foundation is encouraging our members to attend the Great Basin Anthropological Conference: http://greatbasinanthropologicalassociation.org/gbac/gbac-registration/

This is a great opportunity for members to attend a regional biennial archaeological conference, which is scheduled for October 6-9, 2016, and will be held at the Silver Legacy Hotel in Reno, NV.

Bryan Hockett, BLM State Archaeologist, is program chair for the 2016 conference, and Pat Barker, retired BLM State Archaeologist and past-president of the NRAF Board of Directors, is the current president of the Great Basin Anthropological Association, the host of the Great Basin Anthropological Conference. Below is a link to the Great Basin Anthropological Association: http://greatbasinanthropologicalassociation.org/

Here are excerpts from a note from Bryan, describing some of the events.

Registration is now open.  You may register and pay for banquet tickets at this time.  Registration will come with two free drink tickets for eer/wine/soda/water.

The host hotel is the Silver Legacy.  We are encouraging as many folks as possible to stay at the Silver Legacy, because we need to meet a specific number of filled rooms in order to get the conference rooms at no charge.  This is another great way to support the GBACs and help keep the costs of the meetings (and, hence, registration) low.  Please be sure to use the meeting code MTGB16 when making your reservation on-line, or give the operator at Silver Legacy that code to obtain your special rate and ensure that you get counted as a GBAC attendee.

The meetings will start bright and early at 8am on Thursday, October 6th, with the Plenary Session. [Angus Quinlan, Executive Director, NRAF, is an invited speaker at the Plenary Session]. You'll want to arrive no later than Wednesday afternoon/early evening, October 5th. Wednesday evening, starting at 5pm, we will have Registration pick-up/on-site Registration and a no-host reception in the Mezzanine in the Silver Legacy.

Looking forward to seeing everyone in Reno in October.

Bryan Hockett, Chair

History

The Foundation has held twelve Annual Meetings since it was founded in 2002. The Annual Meeting provides a forum for the Foundation to share its research findings and allow other researchers to discuss their findings. At each meeting, the best paper presented by a student receives an award. The Annual Meeting is also the occassion for the Foundation to recognize the outstanding contributions of its volunteers to rock art preservation. The 12th Annual Meeting of the Nevada Rock Art Foundation was held September 25-27, 2015 at the College of Southern Nevada, Las Vegas, Nevada. Click here to view the Meeting Program.
